Columbus Crew SC opened their preseason with a 5-1 victory over USL League Two side Ventura County Fusion in a match that revealed, among other things, that former New Yor Red Bulls and FC Cincinnati winger Derrick Etienne Jr. is on trial with The Crew.
Per Jacob Myers of the Columbus Dispatch, Etienne was one of the goal scorers for Columbus, which is beginning its second season under coach Caleb Porter after Gregg Berhalter departed for the US national team managerial post.
Other scorers were Santos, Berry (1st rd), JJ Williams and Danny Griffin (2nd rd).
