The midfielder James Maddison has been a target for English Premier League giants Manchester United. The Red Devils who need some serious rebuilding have now been handed a boost in their pursuit of the 23-year-old England national team midfielder. Manchester Evening News [MEN] report that Maddison ‘wants to join Manchester United’. Earlier, reports had suggested Maddison would sign a new and improved contract at Leicester City.
United brought in Bruno Fernandes from Sporting CP in the recently slammed shut
January transfer window. The Red Devils will now be looking to continue their
rebuilding process in the upcoming transfer window. They have already been
linked with a move to many players and James Maddison is one among them.
A source close to the Leicester City playmaker has told the MEN that Maddison ‘would have been at United years ago’ if the choice was up to him.
Maddison has been starring for Leicester City
James Maddison has been impressive and crucial for Leicester City so far this season. The 23-year-old No.10 has appeared in 25 games in the English top-flight for Brendan Rodgers’ side. He has scored 6 goals for the club so far in the Premier League and has given assistance to a further 3. His side sits third in the points table, behind league leaders Liverpool and defending champions Manchester City. And they trail Pep Guardiola’s team by only 2 points. However, they command a whopping 8 point lead over fourth-placed Chelsea.
If Manchester United decides to sign Maddison, they will have to splash the cash. The performances Leicester City’s England international have showcased on the field so far this season has really been impressive. It also remains to be seen if Leicester City will eventually decide to sell one of their most crucial players.
Grealish also among Manchester United targets
Meanwhile, Manchester United have also been linked with a
move for Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish. It remains to be seen whom
Manchester United will eventually choose, should they decide to sign any of
these two highly-rated Premier League playmakers.
Manchester United languish in the eight spots in the Premier League points table. They are expected to make a few signings in the next summer to revamp and bolster the squad. The future of players like Paul Pogba also remains uncertain.
